Merritt Island Mango

Last weekend I was wanting to go to Cocoa Beach Farmers Market. I saw online the website about Brevard Farmers Market and so I thought Sunday was a good day to go check it out. To tell you the truth I had great expectations about this, I was even dreaming about a place like the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco. A girl can dream right?

So, then we got up early on Sunday and got ready to go because we didn’t want to arrive late to have plenty of choice on everything they would be presenting there… Short story short, we found a place with three stands with the kind of produce exactly the same as the one you can buy in any grocery! I don’t need to tell you how disappointed I was, you can imagine.

Oh well, but since we were out, we rode around Merritt Island just to spend sometime and enjoy the views. I didn’t know that mango have been cultivated there for over 100 years nor this was the perfect time to go get some. But the fact is this tropical tree is seen everywhere around the island and this time of year showing proudly their rich flavor fruit.

And along with the trees there were many signs selling the fruit.

You see, one side of the road is like this, with palm trees and water…

And the other side is full of mango trees…

And mango signs…

And people selling mango on the road. Pretty nice, don’t you think?

We got ourselves a nice basket and I can’t wait to try it!
